Recently, I’ve been thinking about living a simpler life. The idea started when I visited Mickey Trescott’s new home in the Willamette Valley over the summer, but it really solidified when we moved all of our things from Maryland to Florida last month – over 14,000 lbs worth of belongings. As we started unpacking boxes, I couldn’t help but think that I just didn’t need so much stuff. The worst part about it? We’re still unpacking.

One thing that makes me sad is that despite a major drive to move towards all things natural and organic in skincare and makeup, none of the beauty brands from India, which is really the source of all Ayurveda, is known / recognized / popular at an international level! We’ve all said or heard it before: “I just don’t have the tiiiime [for breakfast]!”

Often, it’s referring to some sort of processed or fast food, as a justified excuse to continue eating that Egg McMuffin, “healthy” protein bar, or a sugar-laden pastry.

So, we start our day with something lackluster, and maybe join the rest of our office co-workers in choosing the pastry of the day in the break room (because misery loves company!), and pay for the empty nutrients and their affect on our bodies later.

Then, we resort to coffee or diet soda (and you know how I feel about soda) to make up for the energy bonk.

Often, the dozens of hats we wear often take priority over our OWN health.

The Dude Abides

In 2007, I boarded a plane bound for Africa for the first time.

That trip took me to Kenya, Tanzania, the island of Zanzibar, and Malawi.

And that trip changed me — heart, mind soul — forever transforming my family and my world.

Today, five years almost to the day since I flew to Nairobi to begin my first African adventure, I’m sitting in the international terminal of Dulles airport in Washington, D.C., waiting to board a 787 Dreamliner bound for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

An adventure lies ahead. And yet, so much more than that.

Soothing views of the healing sky…

I realized a bit ago that I have for too long taken the sky for granted.  When I started becoming more interested in shooting my world, I started to really take a look at what I saw.  What I saw, what I see often amazes me.  What a wonderful view the sky has to offer us.  From the clear blue day to the dark stormy nights, she dresses herself in breathtaking wardrobes.  Essentially, I started looking up and paying attention.  Try it sometime.
